About Copperflats Farm:

Copperflats Farm is a family owned farm, mostly for the fun of it. We had trouble picking one breed of goat because we find that they are all beautiful…so we have a few goats in each of the following breeds: Sanaan, Alpine, Toggenburg, Oberhasli, Nubian and Boer.

We began with a single goat many years ago as a pet. Begonia…a beloved friend would follow us everywhere. We got her from an auction barn and she was an odd goat. She wouldn’t jump or climb so we had to teach her. I still wonder what our neighbors thought as they’d see my husband and I jumping on and off the picnic table! She liked to eat marshmallows and potato chips….and if you gave them to her in the wrong order she would nip you softly in the leg so you would know you made a mistake.

Tragically Begonia was killed by a neighbors dogs and we decided that no goat could replace her. So, that was the end of our goat farming. Or so we thought.

Fast forward a couple of years and here come the kids…the human ones! We have three girls. When the oldest girl was getting old enough to join 4-H we decided that the goat club would be fun. We wanted our girls to be in 4-H and have livestock to give them some responsibility along with the fun of loving and caring for an animal. We also wanted a project that the whole family could participate in. We feel that spending time together as a family is the most important thing we can give our girls.

So, we went to get our goat. My husband declared that we needed only one goat. We bought 2. Now we have about 60. Our three girls are currently members of the Butler County Caprine Connection
4-H Goat Club.

We are also members of ADGA (American Dairy Goat Associaton), BADGA (Butler Area Dairy Goat Association), ODGA (Ohio Dairy Goat Association and SEOGDA, South East Ohio Dairy Goat Association).

Everyone in the family enjoys the goats…heck, they are part of our family.
